The Austrian Institute of Technology joins the DNA Bank Network
The DNA Bank Network welcomes its second international partner!
The DNA bank of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) has joined the DNA Bank Network on
August 29th 2012. The Repository Centre at AIT is providing access to biological material ranging from whole organisms
(bacteria, fungi, plant material) to DNA samples of whole genomes (gDNA), organellar and sub-genomic clones and BACs or genes (ESTs).
The core of this facility is a large automated sample storage and retrieval system.
To share the data via the DNA Bank Network's webportal BioCASe has been set up and the DNA data
have been mapped with ABCDDNA. For now a test set of more than 20.000 DNA samples of the AIT is available via our webportal.

Banking DNA for Biodiversity Genomics
The main focus of the DNA Bank Network is to enhance taxonomic, systematic,
genetic, conservation and evolutionary studies by providing:
• at-cost availability of non-human DNA material,
• high quality, long-term storage of DNA material on which molecular
studies have been performed, so that results can be verified, extended,
and complemented,
• complete on-line documentation of each sample, including the provenance
of the original material, the place of voucher deposit, information
about DNA quality and extraction methodology, digital images of vouchers
and links to published molecular data if available.
